Zehra Marikar, a 24-year-old multimedia artist, curator, creative practitioner, and entrepreneur, creates art that reflects on home and identity. She works with multiple mediums to explore how culture and geography shape notions of the self, using narrative and metaphor to deconstruct ideas related to identity politics. Zehra's art bridges the past and present through materiality, and she addresses the complexities of human relationships with humor, making complex familial dynamics accessible and playful. Her aim is to build intimacy with her audience by creating art that invokes nostalgia and fosters relationships and conversations.
In addition to her artistic work, Zehra is the founder of the Empty Wall Project, a London-based arts charity that offers workshops to children and adults from disadvantaged backgrounds. She is also the co-founder of The Home on Me, a collective that helps young artists market and sell their work. Zehra's goal is to create accessible art spaces that challenge biases and expand art education.
