Sabari Artisans Village

Exhibiting the work of artists and craftspeople from all over India, SAV establishes itself as a conduit for integrating the fine arts & crafts world. To create a non-intimidating space for visitors to view and appreciate art, our gallery takes a holistic approach with a diverse collection of textiles, sculptures, paintings, bespoke furniture, ceramics and home goods.

What we do

Our mission at SAV is to bring fine craftsmanship and art to our audience while supporting the disappearing crafts of the subcontinent. A token of ancestral knowledge, these handcrafted goods are symbols of the rich tradition that underlines the ontological state of our collective histories. With rapid urbanisation and industrialisation, craft livelihoods are on the brink of disappearance and machine made goods are on the rise.

Why we do it

Despite its rich heritage, there exists a notable lack of critical writing and curation surrounding fine art and craft in the Indian subcontinent. We aim to delve beyond merely acknowledging the artists and their identities but also focus on the intentions and stories woven into their artworks. Each piece is intertwined with layers of social, cultural, and political phenomena, reflecting a complex mosaic of influences and perspectives. Yet, we often sideline these crucial narratives, overshadowing the profound stories embedded within the art. It is our duty here at SAV to recognize and elevate the anecdotes within the art, and make them emerge as reflections of society.

Moreover, our mission extends beyond preserving art and craft. SAV is a brand of Sabari Charitable Trust, which operates 5 government-aided schools in Kerala, providing free education, meals, and resources to over 7,000 needy students. Every purchase from SAV directly supports these children, ensuring they have access to the education and opportunities they deserve. You are not just acquiring a beautiful piece of art; you are contributing to a cause that empowers the next generation and sustains the rich cultural heritage of our land.
